The Poteau High School Academic Bowl team is headed to state! The team were runner-ups at the area tournament that took place in Stigler on January 18.

After losing their first round, the team won the next four. Two of the rounds (which included the final round) were particularly suspenseful as they ended in a tie and the winner had to be determined by a single question.

The team was headed by starters Madeline Brennan, Bailey Pickle, Kenny Ni, Shelby Zink, with players Haley Zheng and Emily Teague subbing in when needed. The team was accompanied by assistant coach Tonya Vick, who teaches English at PHS, and Victoria Fisher, PHS’s Spanish teacher. Head coach Tom Brennan could not attend due to scheduling conflicts.
