October Students of the Month
Students of the month of October have been chosen: teachers recognized two outstanding students per each grade that have made the best improvement, best work in class, and got along with other students.
Desiree Maden, Senior
Receiving this award for her was a surprise, but it makes her feel really excited and proud. She excels in Math and Science and two of her future goals are to go to college and become a psychologist. She is involved in the Poteau Pirate Newscast and in NHS; she is involved in cross country and soccer.
“I’m very excited [for the upcoming season],” says Desiree.
Garrett Clark, Senior
Garrett is involved in FFA, NHS, football, soccer and he would like to go to college and play football there. The title of Student of the Month makes him proud and he believes he earned it because of the hard work and respect shown to teachers.
Clark is not only a great student but an amazing athlete. This year, he broke the school record for extra points scored during a game.
Bailey Pickle, Junior
Bailey had no idea that she was going to be chosen for the award, however, she feels very proud of it. In her opinion, teachers may have recognized the relationship she has with other students and her attitude in classes, where she does what she is supposed to do. In order to become one of the students of the month, she thinks that you always have to be nice to people and work hard.
She is the president of the International Thespian Society #3283 and part of the Pirate Players, NHS, Academic Bowl, and football. Two of her favorite classes are, unlike all the other students chosen, English and History; she would like to get a major in journalism and become an editor.
Kass Fenton, Junior
“I always try to help people out and be nice to everybody,” says Kass, football, basketball, and baseball player, and member of the prom committee.
Kass considers himself outgoing, hardworking, and helpful. These are all characteristics he believes qualify him for this title and honor.
Science is one of the classes he is best at and his goal is to go to Oklahoma State University.
Jentri Jordan, Sophomore
“[I feel] pretty proud” says Jentri about the award.
Jentri guesses that the main reason why she was chosen is her good grades.
She is part of the cheer team, science club, student council, and NHS; her favorite subjects are math and biology.
“I would like to go to college and become a doctor,” says Jordan.
Colton Williamson, Sophomore
Colton is a basketball and football player who is in NHS; he likes math and science and he would like to go to college and keep on doing things right.
Zoe Nesbitt, Freshman
Even though she didn’t know she was going to be chosen, Zoe Nesbitt is satisfied with the award. She is involved in track and cross country, and she excels particularly in English and Biology.
Dean Odom, Freshman
Dean says that “doing good in class” could be the reason why he was chosen as one of the Students of the Month, but, in addition to his behavior in class, teachers may have also looked at all the activities he is involved in. He is part of the student council and he is into football, basketball, track, and powerlifting. The classes he is best at are general business and biology.
