You need to consume a variety of healthy foods. Not all nutrients and other substances in food contribute to good health have been identified, so eating a wide assortment is very good.

 

Keeping an eye on your portions can be very challenging but will contain to the future. In recent years, serving sizes have become massive. Be sure you don’t order anything that has been supersized.

 

Make sure to eat plenty of produce. For a 2,000 calorie diet, choose whole fruit over juices with artificial flavoring.

 

Eating more whole grains is good it can help control blood sugar and reduce colon cancer. So make sure you look for whole grain stamps when you go to the grocery store.

 

You need to limit refined grains and added sugar. Most snack foods have little or no dietary fiber and have been stripped of many nutrients. Sugary foods are also high in fat so they have even more calories.

 

Always enjoy more fish and nuts. Nuts, fatty fish, avocados and vegetable oils supply healthy unsaturated fats. Research suggest these foods high in calories promote weight gain.

 

It might be hard at first but cut down on animal fat. Saturated fats, especially from red meat and processed meat, boost cholesterol. To limit your intake choose lean meat, skinless poultry and nonfat or low-fat dairy products.

 

Watch out for trans fat it is the worst for your health. Trans Fat in your diet increases your risk for heart disease. Since 2006 when the trans fat labeling law went into effect, many food makes have eliminated or greatly reduced these fats in their products.

 

Do not worry about cholesterol. Though a 300 milligram daily cap on cholesterol intake has long been strongly advised, these abundant evidence that cholesterol in food has little if any effect on blood cholesterol in most people.

 

Keep sodium down and potassium up. Excess sodium raises blood pressure in many people and has other harmful effects. Choose and prepare foods with little salt, at the same time consume potassium rich foods such as vegetables.

Eating healthy can be a challenge.  You also have to remember that eating healthy is only half the battle: getting plenty of sleep and exercise are also keys to a successful diet.
