Kaycee Quarry is much more than a math teacher.  With three children and a penchant for baking, this is a lady with a lot of personality.

Quarry is a Poteau girl through and through.  Having been born and raised here, she is now paying forward the education she received from some of her favorite teachers.

Most of the teachers I had when I was in middle school were awesome,” Quarry said in an e-mail.  “But my math teachers have always been my favorite. Especially Linda Smith (7th grade math) and Linda Roop (Geometry, Trigonometry, AP Calculus).”

After graduating from PHS, Kaycee went on to receive her Associate’s Degree from CASC.  She then transferred to NSU in Tahlequah where she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Secondary Math Education.

“I probably knew that I wanted to be a teacher from the time I was in pre-school,” she says.

After college, Quarry taught at Arkoma (7 – 12th grade math) for one year.  Then she moved to Pansy Kidd Middle School where she taught sixth grade for 16 years.  She has been at PHS for three years now, teaching Geometry, Algebra II, and Pre-Calculus.

Mrs. Quarry is happily married to her high school sweetheart, Jeremy Quarry, who is the Maintenance Director for Poteau Schools.  Together, they have two children, Warrick (11) and Jenci (10), in addition to Jeremy’s daughter Baleigh (17).

In her free time, she loves to cook, bake, and do crafts.  Cooking is something that she is able to enjoy with her children, especially Jenci who is very gifted at making gourmet dog treats.  Mrs. Quarry’s baked goods are more for human consumption as she makes highly praised sweet treats like cupcakes and wedding cakes.

Dedicated to pleasing her children, Mrs. Quarry made these Batman themed cupcakes for her son’s birthday.

Quarry’s cinnamon roll waffles are “faster and better than baking in the oven.”

Anyone who follows Mrs. Quarry on Facebook will know that she enjoys taking on a baking project. She challenges herself one step further by taking on a complicated decoration design.

One of her favorite projects was a wedding cake for a former student.

As Teacher of the Month, Mrs. Quarry notes that it is clear why the first two teachers have been from the math department.

“PHS has an excellent math department,” she says. “Not only do the math teachers know their subject area, but we work very well with each other.”

As for the Students of the month who are honored with her during the month of September?  She refers to all of them as “excellent choices.” Having taught many of them twice now, she knows they are a gifted group.

“They are great role models for their fellow students.”

Just as Mrs. Quarry is an excellent role model for her fellow teachers.
