Here at Poteau High School we’ve had some changes to the teaching staff. Several different teachers are here at PHS this year but we are focused on one, Jennifer Brooks.

Jennifer Brooks, new sophomore English teacher, is one of those individuals in transition.

Brooks used to teach at Spiro High School for 10 years  then moved to PHS to teach her 11th year of English II. She started teaching early 2007 and throughout all these years she knew every student, so coming to Poteau has been a bit of an adjustment.

That has not stopped her from keeping a positive attitude.

Brooks noted that she has already noticed a few differences between the two schools.  Most notably, attitudes of the kids.

“The atmosphere here is great, the students in the most part have a great attitude and are ready to learn,” said Brooks.

Some of the most exciting things that she is looking forward to this year is learning all the students names and gaining their trust, she says “it leads to positive relationships which lead to positive learning experiences.”

“I’m excited to see what each day brings,” said Brooks.

She really enjoys the students here at PHS, especially the baseball team.  The decision to move to Poteau was sweetened by the fact that the baseball team welcomed her son with open arms.  All the baseball players treated her son like part of the team in summer ball, which they both appreciated.

Here at PHS we are excited to welcome new staff members and see what they have to offer as the year goes on.
