Han Solo has been the fan favorite “scruffy-headed nerf-herder” since he shot Greedo mid-lunch. Han may be the one who got everyone entangled in Jabba’s mess, but he’s also the one who flew into the dogfight, out of nowhere, to take down the Deathstar. People love him, so why not make a movie about him?

Solo: A Star Wars Story was confirmed back in 2016, and was later revealed to star Alden Ehrenreich. People were a little shaky on this one. Many people claimed that Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver and The Fault in our Stars) was perfect for the role, and he should have been casted instead. Shortly after this, Donald Glover, or Childish Gambino, was confirmed to play Lando Calrissian, the suave smuggler. This, however, was said to be perfect casting by many fans.

Donald Glover was the fan favorite in Community, director of Golden Globe winning TV show Atlanta, and has released three albums under the name Childish Gambino. His whole career is a critical success. It is said by many fans that even if this movie flops, at least we actually got to see Donald Glover play Lando.

The film was originally to be helmed by directors Phil lord and Chris Miller (21 Jump Street, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and The LEGO Movie) until they were fired because the film “didn’t feel like Star Wars.” Ron Howard (Arrested Development, Apollo 13, and The Da Vinci Code) was thrown in to fix the mess that was already four months into production. Ron was forced to reshoot almost the entire film.

With only four months until release, The trailer released on February 5. After months of anticipating a trailer,  many fans are still terrified that this may be the first Star Wars flop. The untitled Deadpool sequel, one of the most anticipated films of the year, releases the weekend before Solo. Not to mention Avengers Infinity War, an anticipated box-office giant, releases earlier that month (May).

Solo: A Star Wars Story has been cursed with film plague, but it still has a chance to be a success. With a good director a good cast on deck, You can bet you find me watching it in theaters May 25.
